My 1998 Honda Accord check engine light came on, went to dealer, code PO740 Torque conv. clutch circuit malfunction, said I needed new transmission for $3200.00. Since this diagnosis, The engine light goes on/off intermittently; car intermittently drives normal, has slight hesitation/surge, then drives normal for days again. I'm baffled. Is it possible this is a wiring/electrical circuit problem rather than an actual transmission problem since the car drives ok? Only code that comes up is PO740 alone, no detailed transmission problem codes that is why I'm suspicious it could be wiring/electdrical,grounding issue instead...My car has 93,000 miles...would it hurt the car to have the transmission fluid changed at this point to see if the light stays off? I hate to spend that kind of money for trany if it isn't necessary. I have done a lot of research and Honda has had TONS of trouble with the 1998 accord trany, but they refuse to help or recall. What do you suggest?? |
