Holding tank monitor Bill Petty 5-7-01
My black water tank reads 3/4 full all the time. How can I check the sensors(There are three showing) to see if they are corroded? I can't get a reading on my ohmeter between any of the three.

I'm not any kind of expert but...if you haven't tried cleaning it, try a pint of Lestoil in five gallons of water and a few miles of driving before draining. Mine is helped by leaving the drain open when not in use to dry out the tank. I'm not sure but I believe the metal parts inside the tank must be non-corrosive.

Only two causes on an empty tank, one is a damp object inside the tank, (usually TP), connecting the three sensor probes, the other is a short in the wiring. Simple enough to disconnect the wiring at the probes,(label or otherwise write down the color codes before you do so you can put them back correctly). If nothing changes,or you get no continuity reading or anything other than open circuit on your meter when connecting across the probes, then it's the wiring or the monitor. If it's in the tank, you can burn it off by by connecting a 12 volt vehicle battery to the probes, wires disconnected, of course, don't leave the battery on them too long, just long enough to burn off whatever is shorting them.
