Bus/RV Maintenance Help Needed LebBuck 5-9-01
I bought a school bus a few months ago and have just converted it to an RV.

We drove it for the first time, and it seemed to backfire quite a bit. It's a gas engine, Chevy, 50,000 miles on the engine. School district ran it until I bought it last November.

What steps should I take to make sure we keep the bus in good running condition? What about the backfiring?

Thanks!

First off check your ignition timing, from there check your sparkplug wires and the firing order. Have you checked the vacuum?
A fluttering needle usually indicates a bad valve and you should hold about 19psi steadily. If not a vacuum leak may be your culprit. Take it one step at a time. P.S. Just in case its the 454V8, I hear their notorius for plu wires. Good Luck

I too have that backfire problem. '90 model motorhome with 454ci. Can the throttle body injectors cause it to backfire at 30 mph +. It starts good, idles fine but when try to accelerate past 30 it backfires slightly all the way to top speed of 45mph. If you try passing gear it just wallows, no acceleration.
