Dometic refrig David Moe 5-25-01
I have a camper with a Dometic RM2501 gas electric. It will not keep things cold. I think all the refrigerant leaked out. Are they worth repairing? Or where is the best place to buy a New Dometic RM2510?
Thanks, Dave

I bought my camper when it was one year old and had a rm 2501 in it. For two years I fought with dealers getting it fixed and at a great expense. It never worked and think it was warmer in there than outside. So when on a 3 week horse trip with coolers and ice and a fellow that had a motor home came by and took a look. He got into the back of it and cleaned out some pipes back there with a swab, took off some stuff and blew into it and now for 7 years it works perfect. I mean perfect--plugged into to electricity and to gas. Now someone has forced the door open and try and find the little piece that keeps it closed---not easy and have ordered something that when it comes I hope works.

Dave. you didn't say how old the ref. was or what the interior is like. Repairing one requires special tools and access to liquid amonia. I called around to several rv repair shops for prices and found that Camping world and one other place where the same price. I recommend you due the same. There was as many different prices as there are motor homes.

I recently purchased a 1987 Playmor travel trailer with a Dometic Model 2400? gas/electric refrigerator which doesn't work. It makes gurgling sounds in electric or gas mode, but does not cool at all. Unit is clean and undamaged otherwise. Is it worth repairing/replacing the cooling unit?
Dealer wants about $450 plus 3 hrs labor @ $89/hr. I'm pretty handy and would consider doing myself if worth it.

The fridge can be fixed. One needs to have the cooling unit rebuilt. This run appx. $500 in our shop.If you are happy with the condition of the rest of the fridge rebuild may be the way to go.

Re: Dometic refrig RM2501 Jeff Kinkaid 7-27-08
The fridge gurggles and the heat exchanger gets warm, not hot. I have gas and electrical to the fridge. It does not seem to cool at all.The trailer sets a lot, we use it a time or two a year. Could the amonia have leaked out or seperated? I am very handy and wondering if there is any thing else I should check. Thanks.

Re: Dometic refrig Ford RV Refrig 10-17-05
Dave, I know the years have past since you posted this, however, if I am reading it, I'm sure others are also. You are much better off to have your refrigerator repaired if the box is in good condition. Replacement refrigerators seldom fit as an exact replacement, not to mention the fact that you will spend a great deal more than necessary. We have trained over 300 individuals in the reconditioning process. They are located throughout the USA and Canada. We can direct you to the one nearest you. If there is not one nearby, you can send us the cooling unit, we will provide instructions on removing it from the cabinet. Also, if there is no one in your area, you might want to consider opening your own business in this field. There is a huge demand for this service. People want to spend their money on vacations, not on appliance replacements. Repair is the least expensive and we provide automatic warranty and opportunities for a lifetime warranty.

Re: Dometic refrig RM2501 Jim 8-6-08
If your handy and it sits a lot exspeshaly not level it could have a blockage, you can pull the fridge out and bounce it around your back yard for a couple days,no just kidding turn it upside down and up right till you hear the fluid moving around smoothly then see how it works......If you smell ammonia the cooling unit is toast
Re: Dometic refrig RM2501 GREG 8-19-08
