Any ideas on installing an overdrive / changing differential to a higher ratio? someone mentioned a box between tranny and rearend that could be shifted? transmission swap??? thanks...

Any ideas on installing an overdrive / changing differential to a higher ratio? someone mentioned a box between tranny and rearend that could be shifted? transmission swap??? thanks... There are several makes and styles of over, under, and direct, or under and direct, or over and direct gear boxes that can be installed inline of your driveshaft.

I have a 88 gmc 1500. straight stock and my rear end went out and i bought a new (05) rear end for my truck but i cant figure out my ratio or the new ones. could i install the new one or install just the gears w/o knowing my ratio?
