Is ther a way to test to see if its the sending unit or a broken wire
This is on 82 winneba
go chevey 454 --69 gal tank
I am pretty sure gague at dash is working can get it to go full scale or empty by shorting across or to gnd.

I am pretty sure gague at dash is working can get it to go full scale or empty by shorting across or to gnd.

Pretty easy to do, remove both wires from the gauge, or if a printed circuit board, trace the circuits from the gauge to the gang connector and note the wiring colors for the gauge. Disconnect the gang connector from the circuit board. Using a multimeter on 15 volt DC scale, or a 12 volt test light, turn the key to "run" and find which of the two wires is "hot". Now take the multimeter leads or the test light leads and jump accross these two wires, you should get a voltage read or a dim light if the sending unit/wire is good, it's usually the sending unit that fails.
