WHAT`S THE BEST IGNITION TIMING FOR 4500 FT ELEVATOIN, WITHOUT PINGING AT OCCASIONAL TRIPS TO SEA LEVEL FOR MY 360 W/ 180 DEGREE THERMOSTAT, PLATINUM PLUGS, STANDARD RADIATOR W/AC IN 78 20 FT VACERO. You could advance the inital timing about 4-5 degrees to compensate for the less dense, hence slower burning mixtures. You'll be losing around 13.5% engine power at 4,500 feet elevation, rule of thumb is 3% per 1,000 feet increase in elevation and 1 octane # per 1,000 feet. Remember, Octane # is not a power rating, only a anti-knock, or "ping" rating.
