Does anyone know much about dinghy towing 4WD trucks? I have a 2001 tacoma 4WD with manual gearbox. Toyota advises against dinghy towing that truck but I don't understand why. The transfer case has a Neutral setting (as does the trans of course). Any words of wisdom?

Hey, for what it may be worth. I have a '79 I pulled . Everything seemed fine till I went over a rough stretch of highway. The truck went into gear. Not just into gear, but into 4 wheel drive. The front drive shaft exploded taking the side of the tranny with it. A rather messy repair job as well as pricey. Now I take the drive shaft out when I pull it. Good Luck |
