Coleman Mach 3 Icing Charlie B 8-22-01
During a recent summer trip in Florida, I noticed the airflow from my Mach 3 unit was significantly decreasing and the temperature inside the motorhome was increasing. I removed the shroud and inspected the two filters. They were not too dirty so I loosened the bolts holding up the lower unit and felt up inside the unit. I felt ice so I turned the unit to "High Fan". This shortly eliminated the ice and the unit cooled great that night without the shroud filters.

I looked some more the next day and noticed what appeared to be a dirty composite filter inside the unit. Can this filter be replaced? I have tried to vacuum it, but it is difficult to access.

Is there a good source for replacement of the shroud filters? The previous owner cut his own filters, but they do not stay in place very well. No clips or anything to hold them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

HAL HERE. I MIGHT BE WRONG BUT WHAT YOUR LOOKING AT IS THE INSIDE OF THE EVAPORATOR COIL AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS TOTALY BLOCKED WITH DUST AND WHO KNOWS WHAT. IF YOU KNOW A A/C REPAIR PERSON HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. IF THIS IS THE CASE THEY CAN USE A FIN COMB TO REMOVE MOST OF IT THEN USE A COIL CLEANER. THEY MIGHT EVER TELL YOU WHERE YOU CAN GET THE COMB AND CLEANER. AS TO THE FILTERS I CUT MY OWN AND USE A WIRE COAT HANGER CUT UP TO SLIDE THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE FILTER AND ATTACHED TO THE COVER. WORKS QUITE WELL.

To clean the coils, remove the plastic top to the unit, remove all the sheet metal screws holding the sheet shroud on, put some plastic down on the floor on the inside the coach, spray the coil cleaner on and hose it out. I always make sure the power is off at the breaker before I spray them, no dancing on the roof! STeve
