My old awning (14' A&E on '84 Holiday Rambler) is failing along the edge of the rail on the coach body. That edge is plain gray material different from the rest of the awning. Working with an upholsterer friend, I can replace that first roll or so formed by the gray material, but it's probably coming up on time to change the entire fabric part of the awning. Does anybody have a source for a good replacement awning, sized and ready to install in my exisitng hardware? God Bless, jd
We can get you the replacement fabric made by A&E for your rv.I don't have the pricing here at home but I would guess $175, your choice of colors. If yoou go to take the roller assy off be extremely careful because it is under a lot of tension, and can rip your hands up but good...
Thanks! Sent you an EMail about particulars. I have Les Doll's excellent article and drawings about taking the awning down and apart, so I feel OK about doing all that. What appeals to me about just doing a repair with my friend is that I could lock the shafts to the roller tube end caps and do all the sewing without taking the material off the tube.
I'm concerned, though, that the gray wrap I want to replace seems to be bonded, not sewn, to the decorative part of the awning. Still, if any stitching is going to fail, it'll be right at the rail, where mine's tearing.
And THANKS on behalf of everybody on the Forum for reminding us about doing things safely!
