Whats the coach..how much weight?? towing?? May need gearing change, injector fouling?? Filters? what percent grades.(First check see if you arent exceeding weight limits)
At 2800 RPM we max at 58 mph on flat roads. Down to 40 - 45 on hills. Anyone have any suggestions to help inc speed?
Your problem is that your bus is geared to pull 32,000 pounds of weight. Your bus probably only weighs 23,000 pounds converted. You need a higher rear end gear ratio. Any gear shop can set you up with a new rear end gear so you can cruise at 75 mph at 2500 rpm.
You don't indicate if this is a new development or situation normal.
Weight is a major factor. Most non-turbo 3208's are rated @ 210 HP. That is not a lot if you are grossing over 30K lbs.
If the lack of power is a recent development, I would check the filters first. A clogged fuel filter won't allow enough volume when the engine really starts to work. A clogged air filter will restrict how much air will mix with the fuel (a good indicator of this will be a whole bunch more smoke than usual).
Dragging brake shoes, misaligned front end, wheel bearing too tight, and underinflated tires will all contribute to slowing you down.
There are two ways to increase speed--increase the HP and change the rear end ratio to take advantage of the higher HP.
Personally, I would not run a 3208 at 2800 RPM for any amount of time. Cruising at 2500 would be about as fast as I would be comfortable with to max the life of the engine.
