Air conditioner blows cold air but compressor never shuts off and air freezes up and quits blowing cold air IF YOU TURN OF THE THERMSTATE, DOES THE AC SHUT OFF? IF NOT TRY AND DISCONNECT IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. IF THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM. CHECK AND SEE IF THE AIR FILTERS ARE CLEAN AND THE COILS ON THE EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSOR ARE CLEAR. IF THIS IS OK THEN YOU MIGHT BE LOW ON FREON. LOOK OVER THE UNIT AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND ANY SPOT THAT SHOWES OIL. THIS WOULD BE THE SPOT WHERE THE LEAK IS.
