Convert 454G to 6.6Duramax/Allison -Paul- 7-3-06
I have a 1984 Winnebago Elandan 454/TH400 and I have a 2002 Duramax w/Allison 1000 series.
1. What GM chassis does this have, is it a P-30?
2. Will the Allison Trans fit this chassis?
3. Can I pull the 454 by bringing it thru the passenger door?

Yes it is on a P 30 chassis, but now you know this won't be a bolt in application. The 454 will most likely fit through the door. Sometimes the manifolds have to be removed first. This is a very tall order to make this engine fit into the older chassis. Fabricating mounts, exhaust, modifying the engine cover, cooling system, electrical system, fuel system, linkage, suspension, the list is endless. Won't say it can't be done, but it is definately a challenge.

Other issues include stiffening the crappy p30 chassis to handle the additional torque (like the p30 didn't steer poorly enough!) and new drive shaft and a differential with the right ratio for the diesel. this power plant initiated a complete chassis redesign by GM to the "WorkHorse" that includes 10 bolt wheels to handle the additional torque!!!!!
the wiring for that engine includes ground speed sensors at the wheels and an ABS interface circuit! sounds like a really lengthy and expensive project. I'd like to see photos when that's completed.
