Onan generator Bob Delaney 7-1-06
I'm planning on installing an gasoline onan emerald plus generatorin a 5th wheel trailer. Has anyone ever done this type of instalation before if so do you have pictures? Also what type of fuel tank did you use and how did you mount the generator?
Re: Onan generator gensetbill 7-1-06
That model of generator has an electric pump installed in it which gives you an unlimited number of options on where to install it. It runs an average of 1/2 gallon an hour so the size of the tank should be according to your expected usage on th genset. Do not install the fuel tank in the generator compartment. If it has rubber legs then all the better if not then get some rubber not less than 1/2" thick to put under it for shock control...the thicker the better. Set it on the ground with a cardboard box under it and write out your template. transfer that to the generator compartment and cut /drill out the necessary holes "dont forget the oil drain hole" Make sure your wiring is all ready including ac out,dc + and -, ground, fuel in, and remote switch. Then install the genset. use commercial holders to hold the tailpipe in place and make sure it extends beyond the edge of the vehicle at least one inch. And nowhere that an open window will be... Make sure you center the genset and have the necessary air intake it needs Which I believe for the emerald 3 is around 80 square inches. Or a 10 x 8 opening. Since the newer 5'vers are made for the newer models you might have too drill some holes to achieve this.... Well thats about it good luck
