Oil Change Help Carlos M. Fernandez 6-22-06
I just purchased a 2002 VW Winnebago Vista RV. I want to do my own oil changes but I am not familiar with the oil filter utilized on this engine. I believe it is called an "internal" oil filter? How difficult is it to perform this procedure on the 2.8L V6 VW engine? Any tips, advice, and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If this is what I think it is, it's not any more difficult than a spin-on cartridge. You'll find that there's a location either in the oil pan or on the side of the motor that the filter element goes into. It will be a canister that opens on one end and the oil filter element comes out (like an old-style carb filter)

Porshe has used this style of oil filter for years and if you've worked on any flat head engines (inline 4 or inline 6), you've already seen this type of oil filter.

Hope that helps!
