I am having difficulty in finding out what the code might be for a 1996 Ford Ranger Pickup truck -code 1442

Code P1442 is "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected" This can be a loose/cracked hose or (typically) a leaky gas cap. Hope that helps! B1442 = Door Handle Switch Circuit Failure C1442 = Steering Phase B Circuit Signal Is Not Sensed U1442 = Non existant With OBD2, you need to specify whether the code is P, C, B or U P = Powertrain (includes Emissions) C = Chassis B = Body U = Universal
