RV air Conditioner Freezing up Karen 5-24-06
We just bought a 2002 Monaco Windsor and the front air conditioner keeps freezing up. It will run at first for about 2 hours and may even cool down the room but then it starts blowing warm air or just plain stops blowing.
I know that this air conditioner was replaced 2004 and they are making excuses for why this is happening, but they don't seam to know how to cure it.
Can you please help me.
Thank You
Karen

The evap coils tend to freeze because the thermostat in the core is faulty or has been removed altogether. In some vehicles, this can also be caused by a bad expansion valve on the low pressure side.

Inside the box for the evap coils, there is a switch attached to a temp bulb. This switch cuts off the compressor when the coils get too cold. If it's faulty or it has been removed or disconnected, then that's where I would start. One way to tell if this is the problem is when the AC cools the cabin down and the AC compressor clutch is still engaged, spinning the compressor. Once the cabin cools down, the compressor should start to cycle on and off.

Hope that helps!

This happened to us in Florida because of high temperature and humidity. The thermostat was set too low and the compressor never cycled off and on.There could also be a problem with low gas.
