My 96 ranger has started to chime. when I start it chimes 5 times 5 times in a row. Then about every 30 miles it repeats the same pattern. Sound seems to come from the middle of the dash.
It sounds to me like the seatbelt warning chime is going off. This is the same pattern that my Windstar has when I drive too long without a seatbelt on.
If the seatbelt light is not lit, you could have a burnt out bulb causing the "Open" in the circuit. The "Open" is what sets the seatbelt warning off. If the light is lit, check the wiring for the seat belt buckle.
Thanks for the info. I have to admit I'm not a good seatbelt user. I'll make sure to 'buckle-up' tomorrow and see if I still get the chimes. However,I have about 250K on the truck and the chimes just started last week. Thanks
