Atwood hot water heaters Denny 3-12-03
I have a Atwood G6A-3E hot water heater in my 84 Winnebago Chieftan. I lights fine and heats up water but doesn't shut down. The pop off will start to drip water letting me know its getting to hot and I shut it down manually. The manual I have doesn't give much information. I'm not sure if its the limit switch or the themostat or both that needs to be replaced. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there,

I have an Atwood G6A-7 and it was not properly winterized and this year, I found that the tanks split along the weld.

Does anyone know if I can get the tank welded and still use the heater, or is it lost for good?

I have the same issue on my 87 Pace Arrow. I plan to replace the thermostat. My problem is it looks like it was already replaced at least once before I bought it. We just turn it on when we need hot water and then turn it off after.

I have a 6 Gallon atwood water heater in my camper. Last winter it had sprung a leak. I took it to a local welding shop where they repaired the leak. Since then I have not been able to keep the pilot lit. I can light it but as soon as I let it off of pilot to turn it on it goes off. I have replaced the thermocoupler also. Any Ideas what may be wrong?

ATWOOD RV 6 Gallon water heater Model G6A-8E: After being off for 2 weeks or more, water heater lights immediately, but burner goes out after 12 minutes and will not relight. We spend a few hours: waiting 15 minutes, trying again, waiting 15 minutes, trying again, and eventually it relights and works just fine for the remainder of our trip, whether 3 days or 3 weeks. Once we stop using it for a couple of weeks, the problem starts all over again.

Thank you

I have a Atwood G6A-7 6 gallon hot water heater that hasn't been used in years. I cleaned out the burner and was able to light it, but the flame burns yellow ("lazy flame") and causes a lot of black smoke (even after cleaning). How can I adjust this (don't have a manual).
HELP!

Re: Atwood hot water heaters Rex 3-21-03
Ever hot water tank I've had did the same thing. If you open hot water faucet a little for a few seconds should help. Also these tanks should have a small air space in top to prevent expansion of hot water driping from pop off. You could try draining a quart of water out of tank drain then fill tank slowly. That should give some air at top of tank. The water seems to be extra hot with the fixed thermostats. I have had this unit for 5 years working the way yours does. Good luck.

Re: Atwood hot water heaters Jesus 5-26-03
All:

I have a 92 Bounder with a G6A-6E that decided to spring a leak. I do not know if the problem is related to yours. I have removed the heater and on inspection found a cracked plastic coupler on the water inlet.

There are five different fittings on this water inlet elbow that extend about six inches along the side of the tank---making it impossible to replace the damaged coupler without removing the heater from the RV.
