Pace Arrow 1994 power steering system Mac 3-8-03
I've been having trouble with the power steering system on my. When you crank the motorhome, you have to add power steering fluid to the system. The power steering will work fine. Then when you turn the motorhome off the fluid spits all the power steering fluid out. Is there a valve? or something that stops the fluid from coming out? When you crank it back up, need to keep adding fluid. It works fine, but spits out the fluid everytime the engine is turned off.

You are air bound. Somewhere you have a big air bubble. How long have you let it run after filling it?

Joe-It does fine as long as I don't turn it off. I've driven over 12 hrs a few times.

What chassis is this motorhome on?Sometimes there is a bleeder on the steering box. When did your problem start? Did you have the system apart?
Re: Pace Arrow 1994 power steering system Mac 3-9-03
I'm not sure what the chassis is- It's a 1993 chevrolet forward control chassis. It's a 33 ft motorhome. I bought the motorhome used/ as is. The powersteering was whining from the start. I figured it had air in it and added fluid and drove it about 150 miles thinking that would bleed it. Didn't help. Then I figured it must be the components so I changed the power steering pump, then the booster. I crawled under it and noticed the automatic emergency brake was disconnected. Not the manual one, just the emergency one so I reconnected it. There was a bleeder valve there on the tank. This helped a little, but not much. I figured it's got air somewhere, but don't know how else to bleed. Is there another valve? I've thought about adding a tank to catch the overflow. This has been going on about a year. Have driven from Louisiana to Tenn and to Florida 12hr or more. Like I said before - as long as I don't turn it off it's fine. Appreciate your help.

Well, that says a lot. Somewhere there is an accumulator. Not the one on the brake power unit, but there is another one. This could be giving you the problem. Also, have you changed the filter? Can you find cooler in the line somewhere?

If by accumulator you mean valve- that's what I'm looking for. any clues?
What do you mean by "cooler in the line. Do you know where I could get a diagram of the system? GM? Fleetwood?
thanks

The accumulater is a cylinder looking part. The cooler would be near the radiator. Trace the lines from beginning to end.
