I have a hydro-air furnace that looks like the Atwood Furnace Everest Star 7900 II, but it's an earlier model, where you push the plunger to light the pilot. The pilot's always lit well, but suddenly has become almost impossible to light -- takes 5 minutes or more. I don't understand what happens when you click it anyway. Is there any way to light it manually? Or how is this usually fixed?
Also, the fan's begun to squeak something fierce. Can it be taken apart and lubricated?
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Randy 6-11-09
Have a hydro flame FA-7916 that ignites and has flame for around 2 - 4 seconds (I can hear it and feel warm air) then goes out. A few times it kind of backfired. Does the gas line feed into a selenoid (sp) that I can measure the voltage at? To see if it is staying open? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Saw other similar problems on the web site but could never find replies to them??
Thanks

Just bought a 86 trailer and can't get the furnece, water heater or fridge pilot lights lit. The stove works fine. I had it let for several min. tried all three several times. Think the air should be gone by now. They have not been used for about 3 years. the fridge and the heater have spark ignitors and the water heater is open flame light.

I have a Hydro-Flame 8531-11 in a 1995 Hurricane Motorhome.
The Furnace has completely stopped working. it was working fine then...nothing. The fuses are all good and the thermosat does not seem to have power to it but when the thermosat is bypassed, still can not get the furnace to kick in. have plenty of propane and the hotwater heater still works, so it is not the gas. would love to get this fixed as we live in this and it is getting hard to heat with pluging heaters!
any suggestions much appreiciated!!

I have a Atwood model 8531- It seems to run ok but it smells like propane outside at the unit. Do I need to regulate the pressure or do you think there is a leak? Bought trailer used and this is my first time using it.
Thanks

MY TRAILER HAS A MODEL 82 FURNISH AND IT WORKS SOME TIME AND DOES NOT WORK AT OTHERS. THAT IS, EVERYTHING WORKS ALL TIME TIME EXCEPT IT DOES NOT EGNIT SOME TIMES. I CAN HEAR THE ELECTRIC EGNITER BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE VALVE THAT RELEASES THE PROPANE IS STILL SHUT. I HAVE TAKEN IT OUT AND TAKEN IT TO THE RV REPAIR AND THEY SAY IT IS WORKS FINE. I PUY IT BACK IN THE TRAILER AND IT MAY WORK OK FOR A FEW CYCLES AND THEN IT DOES NOT EGNIT.ONCE IT FAILS IT WILL NOT EGNIT AGAIN.
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Ed 10-11-08
I have a 1971 Security Traveler trailer with a HydroFlame Catalytic heater in it. The thing has worked fine for years. Now I can light the pilot light, but it won't stay on for long. I think the flame is not hot enough to engage the system. I say this because if I put an additional heat source from a propane torch, not only does the pilot stay on, but the burner lights right off. Both stay lit until the temperature cools back down. Then the burner shuts off, followed by the pilot light. I took the whole burner unit out and cleaned it. There was a little device on the pilot light that had jiggled out of place that looked like its purpose was to keep the heat directed on the sensor. I put it back where it goes, but the pilot still doesn't seem to produce enough heat. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: hydro flame 8900-II furnace noisy Graham Wiggs 11-21-08
Noise from fan/motor had become unbearable. Ordered new motor today. Should motor be the culprit? If so can all the replacement be done from outside of trailer without removing entire unit?
Give me any info on the process please.

Thanks
Graham
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Dennis 12-5-08
I have a hydro flame excalibur 8500-II and I cannot get to light as per instructions in my oweners manual. The trailer was built in 1993, and not used very often--anyway I would like to try and get it going in the spring.

1. I probably tried 10/12 times this year
2. I opened the exterior door, but I do not see a gas shut off valve--should there be one/and if so where??
3. I have NEVERED smelled gas,
4. I have checked all fuses--no problem there. Thank you Dennis

Re: hydro flame rv furnace 7912-11 David 9-15-09
I have an Atwood 7912-11. The blower turns on and runs well, the gas valve seems to be working properly, and I can hear the the spark igniter. The problem arises when the heater turns on for a few seconds, the valve opens, and the blower rapidly and intermittantly shuts off (for a split second), but then restarts. The flame never has a chance to light. The led indicator eventualy blinks once (indicating a limit switch/airflow problem). Any suggestions?

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Ken 10-1-09
Have a 96 Dutchman 5th, 8535-III
Problem is not much air flow from floor registers, and burner turns on and off while fan continues to run.
Checked for obstructions in duct work, Flow comes from three 4" holes in rear of furnace, into a single plenum, and then into a 1 1/2" x 12" trunk line running length of rv with 4 outlets. Could the plenum/trunkline be to restrictive for good air flow, and possibly causing the furnace to overheat, hence the cycling of the burner ? I just purchased this unit. Air flow is relatively hot/warm, just not alot of it. Thanks.....Ken

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Mike - Rochester, NY 10-2-09
We have a Hydroflame 8500 seriesII furnace in our 5th wheel. It was working fine one day and the next day when I turned it on the 12v lights pulsed really fast as the blower motor started. It took a few secons longer to ramp up to speed fast enough to close the sail switch. Furnace ran fine. After that cycle, the blower wouldn't start. I went out and spun the blower with my finger and it started, although very slowly at first taking time to ramp to speed. Do I need a new blower motor, or is there a start up capacitor or something controlling start up? Supposedly there was a new motor installed in this coach two years ago (we've only had it about 4 months) Can they wear out that fast?

Thanks for any replies!

I have a Hydro Flame 8535-II in a 96 Prowler that will do about an 8 Second burn when it is set, then the burner will kick off. I replaced the flame sensor/ignitor probe. This did not fix the problem. When this started I had the trailer parked with the furnace on and the electricity was out for three days running my batteries down. Could this have toasted something in the card? Thanks for the help. Phil

I have a HydroFlame Excalibur 8520-111 furnace in my Mallard Travel Trailer. Worked fine one day, went to turn it on the next morning and the blower would run but no heat. The dealer checked the ignitor board and said it was dead. Put in a new Dinosaur board but still no ignition. Dinosaur troubleshooting guide says if no green light at the LED on the board the next things to check are the sail switch and the limit switch. Unable to locate a factory workshop manual. I'm not sure where the limit switch or the sail switch are located. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

We have a Hydro Flame #FA7920 Model B, 19500 BTU in our Coleman pop up tent trailer. When the furnace runs for about an hour it starts making a banging sound like it may be back firing. I just purchased a 1995 Bigfoot with a Model 8012DF Hydroflame furnace - it's working fine but I don't have any user's manuals for it - do you know of anywhere that I may be able to get one? I have tried the Atwood site but have not received a reply from them and I understand they may be temporarily out of business due to a fire at their plant. I am also looking for the manual for the Model R1745AGP Wedgewood 4-burner stove/oven also distributed/manufactured by Atwood. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Craig 2-10-08
I have a hydro flame 7916 II in my fleetwood popup. This past weekend was the first time we ever had to use the heater. Every time the heater shut off the on/off circuit brkr switch tripped. I noticed the diag. LED blinking once with a three second pause, so I referred to the install. manual. It is telling me there is a limit switch/airflow problem. Am I setting the thermostat to high ? I noticed when I set it less than half way it works fine but anything more than halfway on the stat. it trips out. Is this normal or is my limit switch going out? Switch is rated at 170 degrees. Thanx

I have a new camper with a Atwood 7920-II. It seems to have a leak in the heat exchanger. The carbon monoxide detector sounds off after the heater has warmed up the cabin, about 10 min.

I have a hydro-flame model 8241 in a park model camper. The unit operates on 120 volts and only has the thermostat for control. The fan operates, the ignitors arc for 5-10 seconds, however the furnace doesn't light. I have tried several times. At one point I had an issue with air in the tanks, but i don't think thats the problem. Any suggestions or should I have a service center look at it.

I appreciate your time.

I turned on my hydro flame furnace (8531-111)to find only cold air.
Then checked things out but every thing seemed to work.I thought as well as the guy who has a trailler park and fixes traillers that it was possibly not getting gas,so I put a new valve in.
There is still no hot air.
Can please explain what is wrong.
Thankyou.

I have an Atwood Hydro flame 8525. It fires and the exterior exhaust is warm, but after approx 10 seconds, it shuts down. This repeats for a total of 3 times, then locks out. If I recycle the thermostat lever to off, then on, it will repeat the 3 time cycle. At the exterior access panel in the electronics section, there is a small red light that flashes 3 times rapidly, then repeats the 3 rapid flashes.

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Jeff Jones 12-29-11
Model number: Excalibur 8500-II furnace in my 5th wheel trailer.
My problems is that my heater works, but sometimes I have to smack lightly on the vent door on the inside of the trailer...below the fridge.

The thermostat works fine as I scuffed up the contact points. The first problem was the fan blower motor, was sqealing for a short time, then I went outside and got into it. Removed the door cover, and blower cover. And then sprayed some good lubricant in between the fan blades with a spray nozzle...lubricating the shaft bearings.

The squeal is gone but when I do smack it softly, it comes on, but slowly the fan motor RPM's increase. It's strange.

It's from a 1991 Road-Ranger, 5th wheel trailer. Is ther possibly a thrown solder from the curcuit board from when the fan motor was squealing, before I oiled it? And maybe something got a little warm on the circuit board? Maybe the limit or sail switch or relays? I Don't know how to troubleshoot this problem, let alone fix it.

The wall thermostat is working fine, it seems. I filed lightly, the contact points as that was my first thought of the problems.

Could you please help me? Very much appreciated.
JEFF...

I have a 85-11 dc propane furnace on my travel trailer. It stop work last year in heating the trailer I went to the exterior panel to check it out this year. I think the it was the circuit breaker that was tripped I pushed it back it. The blower fan was working. Question 1. is there anyplace on that motor that needs lubricated or is it sealed? 2. Do they make three speed dc motor for this model that would have more air flow through the ducts? 3. Where can I get a circuit breaker for this model? 4. What is a Sail switch and what does it do? 5. How is the limit switch suppose to work?
I start the furnace up this morning, started up fine and heated really good for a while then started blowing cold air. I have noticed this before from outside that sometimes the furnace will ignite and then you can smell propane like it is trying to lite but it does not lite. Is this a flame senor and if so where do I get one and how do I change it? Also I have notice that this morning the air blew out of the ducts with more force is there a door for the ducting that is controlled by a senor? As far as I know there is no furnace filter correct me if I am wrong. Also is there any type of sealant that could be sprayed in the ducting to seal any possible leaks? Thanks Kevin

I have a 2002 Catalina with a 8600 III hydro flame furnace. i set the thermostat i hear it click, the blower starts. it ignites the burner, it burns for a few seconds maybe 5 then the burner shuts down, then it retry's. it does this cycle three times then it doesn't try again. i have to kill the power at the circuit breaker then it will work till it heats up the trailer. then it shuts down as normal. it will not restart when it gets too cold. i hear it click, the blower starts. it ignites the burner, it burns for a few seconds maybe 5 then the burner shuts down, then it retry's. got any insight on what i can do to fix this problem? TIA.

I have a 1988 Holiday Rambler 35' motorhome with a Hydro Flame furnace. Model #8235. Serial #1322371. The furnace will sometimes light on the first try, but then will not light again. When it tries to light there is a loud pop. When it does light there is a woofing sound for a short time. When the furnace doesn't light the fan continues to blow. Is there a solution to this problem. There is no sign of rust anywhere in the furnace.

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site HARRY O. 9-24-10
Hi, I have a hydro flame furnace in my 2005 Dutchman 38 ft. travel trailer. The problem is when I turn the heat up to 70 degrees, the furnace will sometimes run until it is almost 90 in the camper, and sometimes it runs perfect. Other times if i set it to 60 to 68 degrees, it will start, I hear it light and then it shuts off after only a few seconds. This will keep happening sometimes for 10 min. or longer and sometimes it will finally light and sometimes not. When this happens, I can hear a clicking noise coming from the electric box in the ceiling where the fan main duct is for the air-conditioned. Someone told me it sounds like a relay?

I seem to be having problems with my furnace on a 1977 Triple E motorhome I just bought. The furnace is a Hydroflame FA7225 and it worked fine until it quit last weekend. The pilot will now light and stay lit but the burner nor blower will kick in. I have noticed the smell of propane coming from that side of the unit (outside only) on numerous occasions but I cant seem to find a leak. All the other appliances seem to work good so I dont really think that it is a low pressure situation. ANy thoughts?? Could it be something as simple as a thermocoupler or does it sound more serious??

Have a Hydro Flame funrace in a 94 S&S truck camper. Funace was used last about 4 years ago the camper has been used many times but no need for furnace! It would not light now. Blew everything out with a compressor really well to get rid of all the dust! Have changed the ignitor, the board, the gas valve, the regulator at the tanks. Have checked the gas pressure at the furnace and still no light! How ever if the combustion air is disconected it lights right away and then I put hook up the combustion air it bruns correctly. Have the ignitor space 3/16" from ground rod and from Burner what else could cause this problem?

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Leroy Millard 9-4-07
We have a Hydroflame furnace which came installed in our 1999 Airstream. We also had a Dometic Air Conditioner - both were controlled with one thermostat.

We had the Dometic Air Conditioner replaced and they also replaced the thermostat control. We have just discovered it does not have a hookup for the furnace like the old one did, so we cannot turn the furnace on.

Is there a separate thermostat for the Hydroflame furnace that we can purchase and install?

There appears to be high heat thermocouple shutdown -if this piece is faulty would it effect the operation of the uni? Thanks
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Melton Barksdale 12-31-06
I have just replaced the gas valve on my old 7200 HYDROFLAME FURNACE. I installed the recommended Robertshaw 7010 and all worked well except the blower motor does not cycle on and off as suppose to do. The old valve had 2 wires attached--12vdc wires--The new valve requires a wire from the thermostat and one from the transformer.
I hooked the same wires as were hooked to the old valve. It keyed the burner to come on but not yhe blower. Is there a detailed wiring diagram available for this unit? Thanks
Melton
Re: hydro flame rv furnace rewiring Melton Barksdale 12-31-06
I have an old 7200 model hydroflame furnace. It began fluttering and service co. advised me to change gas valves. After a long search, I did locate a Robertshaw valve that seemed to replace the old one real well---except that the motor and fan does not cycle on and off. The overload breaker trips also. I had 2 butane heater repair (servicemen) check it out with no help. I believe that something is wired wrong. ( I carried it to a RV dealer and the unit was so old that he didn't want to mess with it--charged me $75 and didn't even reassemble the furnace.
After I put the new valve on, the pilot worked great and when I moved the thermostat, the burner came on and worked great, but the motor newer tried to run. I know that the motor is good because I gave it direct 12 vdc and ran great. It is just not getting the juice at the right time to cycle on. Is there a Wireing diagram available--The old valve had 2 wires attached 12vdc--The new valve ask for a thermostat wire and a wire from the transformer--- I think that a jumper wire has to be installed for all work in sequence.
Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site john 6-4-07
Same problem have you fixed yours yet
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site Mike 6-2-03
It might be your gas preasure. I have a Hydro-Flame 8535 III, and it would sometimes not ignite, even though I could hear the igniter initiate its ignition sequence. I ran out of propane and got my bottle refilled and now the furnace works fine. Apparently when my propane got low, the preasure decreased enough that adaquate propane was not being supplied to the combustion chamber. Im sure that I need a new requlator, so that adaquate preasure is supplied even when propane gets low. I havent fixed the problem, but at least I know what the problem is.

I have a model 8531-11 hydroflame furnace in a terry taurus motorhome that never started this season. No blower motor sound, and i do not hear the burner ignite. I do not really recall what the fire up sequence is, (burner first or blower first. ) but essentially nothing happens. I am kind of familiar the working of furnaces, as i have been selling parts for them for 15 years. Help me Ted

Howdy and Help.

I have an old hydro flame furnace in a pop-up camper that will not light.

I have replaced the UIB-L two times, I have a new.4 psi (11”WC) gas valve,
and a new 11” WC regulator.

The electrode is set at 1/8 inch.

I have checked and cleaned air passages. Since the board runs the electrode
three times while opening the gas valve all must be working well. I vacuum
the combustion chamber, and blew air through the orifice.

I have removed the gas valve, tube, orifice, and screen to observe where the
gas is passing through the screen and checked that location with the lenght
of the electrode to determine that the electrode is sparking at the point where
the gas passes through the screen. The solenoid works well. After the first cycle
(fan, spark/open solenoid, 20 seconds, … then second cycle) gas and air blows
through and out the exhaust.

An air and fuel stream mixture exits through the exhaust.

It seems I have an air-fuel mixture problem or a weak spark. Since I have not seem
how well an electrode sparks while it working well I can not determine if mine is sparking strong enough.

Lets try your knowledge on a non-electric start-up!!!!!!!!I have an old Hydro flame furnace that is pilot controlled. It fires up fine and does all the other nice things that a nice furnace should plus some!!! Shortly after it fires up, I get a backfire and it burns at the 3 orifices, even before the blower comes on. I changed the gas valve--no help- I know (think) its in the burner, orifices or gas pressure, but have not been able to pin-point the cause. Any ideas????
Thanks,M. Barksdale

My heater is in a 1998 Lance camper. I let the fan run for 5 minutes. Then I turn the dial to pilot and try to light the Hydro Flame pilot by pushing the ignitor (button that says push) a few times. I cannot tell if the pilot flame is truly on, but I go outside and smell the exhaust and I think maybe it is on..... but I cannot move the dial to on. Hence the heater does not come on.

I have a hydroflame rv furnace in a 1995 prowler. The furnace works great but recently when the furnace comes on there is a loud squeling noise when it starts up.

Could the motor be going out or is there some type of bearing that requires lubricating?

your help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site George Hauck 9-12-06
Re your 7916 blower noise, the problem is either dirty/damaged fans, or bad bearings. These units bearings are sealed. There's no easy way getting to the unit, but it's not too difficult.
Kill the power (pull your fuse)
Shut off the gas tanks.
Pull the vent cap exhaust tube and extension box from the OUTSIDE(where it discharges hot burned gases)
Remove front grill, and junction box cover (Power supply/thermostat wires), and disconnect wires (don't forget to mark them so you can reassemble)
Remove mounting screws from front (probably 2)and pull the unit out.
You can remove the motor and blower fans (there are two fans on one axil).
Old 79 series motor part no. 1036.
Now if I could get ignition on my 7916 I'd be happy.

Disconnect Gas supply line.

I flip on the Hydo flame switch..the fan comes on with a horrendous screeching noise... The furnace was working just great until the screeching noise... I've had the area around the burner cleaned out of dust, the electric motor, ck'd and the furnace ran fine all the time it was in the shop!!! This is an older model, in my '84 Pace Arrow which originally had a Duo Therm furnace, which had to be recalled.

Greetings,
This hydro flame model 8531-11 does come on then ignites and burns for a few seconds and then goes out. Every now and then it does a longer burn.
Could this be related to the limit switch?
Thank you for your time with this matter.

I have a hydro-flame furnace, model 8232. The blower starts, but no ignition. I disconnected the high tension wire and checked for spark, but nothing. Could the board be bad? What is the function of the limit switch and the relay? thanks,Doug
Re: atwood drewynp 9-1-07
I'm not an RV specialist, but I am an HVAC guy, and it sounds like you've got a low combustion air problem on your hands. Vent may be plugged, intake air inlet may be full of dust, wasp nest, rust, etc...

Of course, you may have this fixed by now...I just ran across your thread while looking for an Atwood furnace wiring diagram.

Good luck!

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site bob 6-15-08
Hi, had the same trouble with my furnace and the problem was a build up of soot and dust in the pan under the burner. Remove the furnace from the camper. Remove the bottom of the furnace along with the burner assembly and simply blow all the dust and soot off the burner pan and reassemble and install the furnace. Check your propane connections for leaks before lighting. Reseal the outer grill along the edges with rv sealant to prevent water running inside the camper wall. These furnaces are great trouble free units.

Fired up Model 8531 atwood furnace for first time in months.Didn't want to start, kept cycling on and off. Went to owners manual that came with 5th wheel. Lists maintenance items, but no troubleshooting or repair type manual.

Re: hydro flame rv furnace troubleshooting web site duane 2-8-09
I have a hydroflame that was cutting off periodically..i could wiggle one of the leads on the time delay relay and it would fire back up. when that stopped doing the trick, i could jump across both sides of the relay with a pair of pliers and it would fire(i assume closing the relay).

now that has stopped doing the trick

13.5 volts is coming in on one lead of the relay but the relay is showing permantly open(per trusty volt meter)

would it be a save bet that the relay has gone bad or is there anything else i need to look at?

thanks

Bought a used 2001 Coleman Taos Popup. Flip the switch, fan comes one, heat comes out, never stops pumping heat until I turn it off. The thermostat lever on top rotates the coil as it should, appears to switch at a reasonably accurate temperature, but looking at the coil, magnet far away from the contact, still pumps heat.

Any ideas? The previous owner said something about a lever or some such on the bottom of the control being broken. off, and being able to feel up under the cover and find it. The temperature setting lever is on the top, so I don't know what this "missing" lever would be, take the cover off, see no evidence of any other lever having been there.

Before we put the trailer away for the winter the heater worked fine. Now, nothing happens when we turn it on. Gas connection is working. No fan... nothing. Not mechanically inclined... does this run on a fuse? Didn't see one so named in the fuse box. (Rumor has it it runs on the same one as the refrig and the refrig is operating correctly) It's a 2010 model. Suggestions?
Re: hydro flame rv furnace Model 8531 Shawn 2-2-09
Might try looking at the sail switch, If the fan is working, but the ignitor isn't kicking in that would mean that it isnt getting the signal that the fan is working, its either that or the presure from the gas isn't high enough but I doubt it.

The 8535-IV-DCLP furnace fails to light when the thermostat calls for heat.
There is a clicking sound that sounds like it is trying to open the gas valve
but it (times out) and the fan continues to run until I turn it off.

I have pulled the interior and exterior doors and see no obvious problem.

The furnace is in a 2001 Dutchman and has never failed before and worked each night the week of the failure.

The four page manual has no trouble shooting guide.
