Towing four down Paul Wise 3-6-03
How can I find out which transmissions circulate fluid via front wheels turning instead of by engine operating? I don't have complete confidence in MH magazine's recommendations since their are several inconsistencies from the manufacturers.

Can a 2000 4Runner SR5 be towed four wheels down or via a dolly?
Re: Towing four down jd 3-7-03
REMCO (www.remcotowing.com) has a broad line of devices and has done a lot of research. Towing World (www.towingworld.com) is also heavy into towing a vehicle behind an RV.
If you're looking at new vehicles to tow, check the owner's manuals to be sure there are no exclusions. Even contact the vehicle manufacturer to be sure there are no gotchas in the warranty fine print. A couple years ago, certain engine/transmission combinations within vehicle model and year were towable while others were not. The two vehicles I tow four down (one at a time...) have manual transmissions. God Bless, jd

Good advice from JD. In addition, the January issue of Family Motor Coaching Magazine (the magazine of the Family Motor Coach Association) has an article, "Towables For 2003." It states up-front that "The following information is intended to help motorhome owners select a vehicle that is approved by its manufacturer for flat towing. The information was gathered from automobile manufacturers and owners manuals..." Slightly further in the article is a sentence that notes the current list comprises those "...vehicles that manufacturers have indicated can be towed four wheels down without significant modifications." Whether or not you would choose to accept this as valid information is up to you. In the past, I have used this annual article as a broad reference, then written to the manufacturer for a statement of policy regarding flat-towing (a Honda with an automatic - and yes, you can, and I do.) If you do not have access to this FMCA membership magazine, let me know and I will be happy to try to help get the information on 2002 and 2003 model year vehicles.

I have a 2003 R Vision Trail-Lite 211S B-Plus Motorhome with a 3500 Chev engine
I want to tow a 1999 GMC Jimmy SUV with a GVWR of 5000lbs. I have researched the Remco conversion system which I would have to have installed. However because of the weight of my Jimmy verses the size of my motorhome, I am not sure if I should buy a smaller tow such as a Saturn Vue or a Honda CRV. What do you recommend?? I really appreciate your help.....Judy

Hi, I have been looking for an owner's manual for an RV we purchased last year. Do you have one for the Trail Lite B Plus 2003 and if you do, would you consider copying it and we would gladly pay you for doing so? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jane
