Gas pump /tranny problems jim h 3-4-03
Hi i just purched a 1977 momile travler 350ci auto tranny.when the camper sits for a bit it seems to take a long time to get the fuel up to the carb to run,a buddy suggested to put a elec pump in line with a toggle switch just for starting if any ideas i would be greatful it runs fine after starting.prob #2 when i start out after warm up the tranny doesnt find first gear just second until after ive driven a few miles would a filter and fluid change work or does it sound like more thanx alot in advance jim.

There may already be a electric pump in line that isn't working. Your engine driven pump probably has leaky valves allowing the fuel to drain back, or the carb is draining into your engine due to leaky plugs in the float bowl. Either way, it wouldn't hurt anything to install an electric pump. I will replace an existing one, but if I install one as a "new" installation, I put an inertia switch in. As for the trans, it sounds like a valve problem. A trans service would be a great idea. If you see brass slivers in the bottom of the pan, that may be what is causing the valve to stick.

Thanx joe for the input but what is a inertia switch ?is it just a toggle to put on till its started ?
Re: gas pump /tranny problems Joe 3-5-03
The "inertia" switch is a switch that when mounted properly will disconnect power in the event of a sudden impact. I put these in because if there ever were an accident, the power would be cut off to the fuel pump so as not to keep pumping fuel if a line were ruptured.
