Wire speed info for mig welders Tim 2-24-03
Hi i'm trying to build a MIG welder at home and am trying to work out how much wire comes out at a certain voltage and thickness
If you have any info for me I would
apreciate it
thanks TIM

What settings should i used on my mig welder for galvalume material that i am using to redo floor in my chevelle car
Re: Wire speed info for mig welders Joe 2-24-03
The speed varies with the heat and wire size. So therefore you would have to have a variable speed motor and a speed control.
How to use MIG Kelvin 6-13-03
I was doing some assignment about the MIG. i would like to ask how the MIG work, what need when using MIG and other information about MIG.
Does anyone know how to work out wire speed settings on a MIG welder?? TIM 2-26-03
Does anyone know how to work out the settings on a MIG welder relating to the wire speed
like inche/centimeters per second
and +-voltage

Like Joe said, speed is relate to heat VS resistance, heat is amps, resistance is volume of metal. more metal need more amps (heat) to melt it. MIG use DC current with voltage from 12VDC to 36VDC & variable AMPS & variable speed. To make it simple, think of kid swing, the heavy girl is on close to the pivot point, and the small/light guy is on the far end of the board. So the girl is the (tickness & type of metal=resistance to overcome) and the voltage/amps/size of wire/speed is the power. IT HAS TO BALANCE OUT.
small wire will use more inch/feets,
there is no number, you have to adjust each time, even the ambiant temperature will affect the amp/speed/voltage to adjudst.
Want a cheap kit?? here look for special.

Check the chart on the inside panel where you put the wire spool in find what kind of gas you are using and your wire size then how thick the metal is that you are welding on and use the chart to put them all together
Re: Does anyone know how to work out wire speed settings on a MIG welder?? john 9-7-03
Like the boys are saying is there is no real setting to vols and amps just a lot of partices on virous thickness of metals and then you also could go to
flux core wire which is really vols amp changes on the gauge of wire and material used thinner the metals less vols more wire the thicker the metals more vols less wire, in a sense in relating to balanceing vols and amps to make good penetration. A good way to tell this is cold weld breaks to much heat will melt the matrail away. watch your shoe laces don't wear holy jeans you will understand after you pratice awhile be safe now

The wire speed and amps/Voltage are indepent, you have to adjust the wire speed to suit the welding conditions,ie voltage, adjust it until it sounds right and welds smoothly, this is true with or without sheilding gas, ie flux core or argon or co2 or a mixiture depending on what metal you are welding, the wire feeder itself is just a varable speed 110 volt electric motor, with a reastat.

Trying to get my mig to spark and no luck. have been trying on all types of metal, clean, rusted, grinded. I have also adjusted to all settings but still no luck. Replaced the wire. I'm not using argon or any gas whatsoever.
