Electric Step on 1989 Winnebago Patti 2-17-03
I can't seem to get the electric step to work and don't know how to seem to make it work. I have a manual but nothing is in there about the electrical system. I would appericate any help from anyone on this I'm trying to help my 85 year old father with this issue.

Are the steps up or down and are you aware that there is a master switch for them?

There are usually two switches to control the step. One is a master switch that controls the power to the door switch. The door switch can either be a button type switch, or there could be a magnetic switch on the screen door. That one is hard to find sometimes. Also depending on what type of step you have there could be an override switch that retracts the step when the engine is started and/or the gear shift is moved out of park.

Check and make sure you have a good ground. Locate the ground wire and make sure the connection is making good clean contact to its grounding point.

Do you hear a clicking noise like it is trying to work?

Make sure that all pivot points are properly lubricated. They get dirty and stick, causing the steps not to function properly.

If you have a bank of solenoids connected to your battery disconnect switch usually connected to the firewall on the passengers side. Hidden under a plastic cover. Normally 2 - 3 solenoids involved. Make sure that one of the circuit breakers haven't tripped and the connections are cleaned. Some of the circuit breakers have a small reset button on them, and they will pop up when kicked out. They are hard to see. You will have to look carefully or feel for these little pop up buttons.

Too keep this short I will stop at this point. Any further questions feel free to email me.

Who is the manufacturer? I may have the wiring diagrams. Email dflanagan01@snet.net All the problems I have had was in the door switch, it gets worn & junk gets in it.

If the steps are up and you are under the coach it is imperative that you stay out of the path the steps take when they operate because if you make the right connection and they come down they are powerfull and can realy create havic with a persons body.
Good luck
