Ford Excursion V10 Towing Dave 2-4-03
Goes anyone know how well a 2000 up Ford Excursion with a V10 will pull a 28' Citation slideout tt? I pull it now with a expedition with 5.4 and its down on power. Thanks

That truck should do it. We towed a 36' Jayco Fiver with GVW of 13,500# for a couple thousand miles in Alaska last summer. Truck was a 2000 F250 Super Duty extended cab short box with V10, 2WD, and 4.31 rear axle. Power was good, overall mileage towing was about 9. The Excursion is largely based on the F250SD, and the engines are the same, so you should be in good shape. But remember a few thingss. The F250 I drove was ordered maxed out for trailer towing. The Excursion you're looking at might not have been. Rear axle ratio will affect pulling power. I'd guess the Excursion weighs easily half a ton more than the F250SD so that could reduce weight available for the trailer. And, looking a two rigs as groups, a pickup/fiver setup will trail easier than a SUV/TT setup. That Excursion is going to be expensive, suggest you research each exact truck to be sure it has every option on it that benefits towing. God Bless, jd

You should have no problem with it. If you haven't bought one yet, I would look for the one that was ordered with heavy duty towing package. It would have hitch, wiring, and aux trans cooler.
