I have a 1948 ACF Brill bus that has survived nicely. No engine or trans at present and might need to go to a new home soon. All glass, straight body, only missing front roof running lights and one side compartment cover. I don't know what model it is. Digital photos available. Offers?

I'am also just starting to redo a 46 Brill ic41 bus, do you have any info on repowering it or converting the steering to power steering? Is your bus redone? Thanks Rusty 888-457-4901 Port Angeles, WA
Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 Wanted John 3-28-03
I now know that my 1948 is an IC-41 thanks to the pictures and info on the Trailways website. I sure could use some information about engines, mountings and costs associated with fitting an engine in this bus.

Also, does anybody know where the VIN is located on the frame or in the engine compartment?

Thanks!
Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 Wanted Ben 2-20-04

Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 Wanted Ben 1-30-04
I also have a ACF Brill IC 37/41 bus converted to a RV. It still has the original engine and transmission. The original engine is a Hall Scott 779 cu. in. 6 cylinder gasoline engine, the transmission is a 4 speed mechanical underfloor type, to put it into reverse you need to have the trans. in 1st then press the activation button located uneder the ignition button, then shift back into what normally is 2nd gear. Preatty cool Huh. What I need to know is where the heck can I find a original or even reprinted shop manual for this thing. It's so old I'd hate to break down some where and not have the info. with me.

Contact At brnr4sure@hotmail.com

Also the gas engine gets horrible mileage as you can guess with the ability to move that huge bus at over 75 mph. (I did that speed coming out of Everett WA one night). So in the 50's Catapillar made a replacement diesel engine that fits the chassi and the trans.
Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 Wanted Rusty Gray 5-9-06

Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 Wanted John 5-5-06
Hi Rick and Ben,

Wow, how do the years go by? I just found my way back to this site.

Thanks for the tip on the VIN location, I will check it out.

My IC-41 is located in Southern California and still needs an engine/restoration.

Rick, are there any seats in your friend's bus?

There is a Brill club, but I don't have that info handy. They met in Nevada a year ago, I think.

Oddly enough, I bought an old copy of Motor Coach Age (April-June, 1995) because it contained a period photo of an IC-41 listed as Southeastern Greyhound Lines bus number 2161. Turns out the caption is a misprint and the bus is really 2164. MY bus! How odd are the odds of that happening?

Thanks for your patience,
john
Re: ACF/BRILL IC-41 John 5-5-06
On my '48 IC-41 there is an ID plate screwed onto the wall left of the driver's seat. In another post, a gentleman stated the VIN is stamped into the left side of the door frame.

Seems I recall seeing numbers there, but I haven't verified it in my bus yet.

Good luck!
john
