Idle adjustment? Tim 1-27-03  
I need info on 6v53 detroit. Idle adjustment screw is adjusted all the way in, and the engine still dosent idle, but will run while holding fuel pedal. The engine will rev up. I would appreciate any help! thanks:)

I'm assuming you did the injector height adjustment when you replaced the heads so Have you done the basic start to finish governor control settings? With the engine OFF (NOT RUNNIBG) you have remove both valve covers. Then back out the idle screw, back out the buffer screw, hold the fuel control in the full fuel position and loosen both inner and outer injector adjustment screws on all cylinders. Next check that you can turn the idle screw freely so that there is no pressure on it fron the governor. Remove the pin on one arm from the governor to the control rack and start on the other side. Begin by turning the inner injector control lever screws in one at a time until it bottoms out. (The injector rod will twist up slightly) Then turn the outer screw until there is no pressure on the rack from the lever adjustment but it must be bottomed out. You can check by turnimg the governor control rack arm pin to see if it rolls freely. Do the remaining two cylinders. Then remove the pin from that side and replace the pin on the other side and repeat the process as from the first side. Replace tha pin on the first side and release the pressure off the fuel feed. Replace the valve covers. Then turn the idle screw in so about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch sticks out of the lock nut. Start the engine and adjust the idle until it is 75 rpm lower then the desired idle and then screw in the buffer screw in to bring up the idle to where you want it. Lock the nuts on the idle and buffer screws and you have got it.
