Refrigerator shorted out Robert 1-21-03
I have a '87 Suncrest. I ran the refrigerator for 4 days after purchasing my RV. I turned off the refrigerator and when I tried to restart it, it blew the breakers as if there was a dead short. I need a wiring schematic or some advice where to look.

FIRST BE SURE IT IS THE FRIDGE AND NOT THE RECIPTICAL. OPEN THE ACCESS PANEL AT THE REAR OF THE FRIDGE AND FIND THE POWER CORD. UNPLUG IT AND PLUG THE POWER CORD INTO AN EXTENTION CORD.IF IT BLOWES A BREAKER THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE FRIDGE.IF NOT FIND SOMTHING TO PLUG INTO THE RECIPTICAL.{ A HAIR DRYER WITH A RESET BUTTON ON THE END OF THE CORD WORKS WELL} IF THE HAIR DRYER'S RESET BUTTON POPS IT WILL MEAN YOU HAVE A SHORT SOMEWHERE. SINCE IT IS AN 87 MODEL AND THE RECIPTICAL IS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS I WOULD REPLACE IT FIRST. THIS COSTS LESS THAN $5.00 THEN I WOULD REPLACE THE BREAKER THAT SHOULD COST LESS THAN $10.00 THE REASON I MENTIONED IT BEING AN 87 MODEL IS IT'S DOUBTFULL THAT YOUR PROBLEM IS IN THE WIRING ITSELF. UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD SOME REMODELING WORK DONE RECENTLY. IF THIS THE CASE THERE MAY BE A SCREW OR A NAIL THAT HAS PUNCHERED THE WIRING.
IF THE FRIDGE ITSELF BLEW A BREAKER THEN TRACE THE WIRES TO THE CONTROL BOARD {THE BLACK BOX ON THE BACK OF THE FRIDGE} THE 110V LEAVES THERE AND GOES TO THE HEAT ELEMENT LOCATED IN THE SILVER TUBE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE FRIDGE.DISCONECT THE TWO WIRES FROM THE HEAT ELEMENT GOING TO THE CONTROL BOARD OHM THESE OUT {YOU CAN BUY A CHEEP VOLTMEATER AT A AUTO STORE OR WALMART FOR AROUND $10.00 TO $15.00 READ THE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO OHM} IF IT DOES NOT OHM OUT REPLACE IT. CHECK ALL THE WIRES FOR WEAR AND TEAR. IF THE FRIDGE HAS BLOWN THE BREAKER CHANCES ARE GOOD YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE CONTROL BOARD. THESE CAN COST ANYWHERE FROM $98.00 TO $220.00 DEPENDING ON WHAT FRIDGE YOU HAVE. IF YOU THINK THE BOARD IS BAD IT MAY BE BETTER TO TAKE IT TO A R.V. DEALER AND LET HIM TEST IT.
HE SHOULD NOT CHARGE YOU MORE THAN A HALF HOUR LABOR TO DO SO.
HOPE THIS HELPS

Would you mind to tell me about refrigerator manufacturer and option---means what kind of extra device with it? (Ice dispensor, ice maker etc.)
