|Help with 91' Ford that won't start||Brian||1-13-03|
About 2 months ago my 91' F250 stopped cranking in the park position, I was
able to start it in neutral until last week.
I get power when I turn the key on, but get nothing when I turn the key to
start, no clicking solenoid, no dimming lights, no nothing.
I was able to start it once from bypassing the solenoid, but that only
worked once and I haven't been able to start it since.
I replaced the ignition switch, bypassed the Neutral Saftey Switch and still
get the same thing.
It won't crank from the key, will crank by jumping the solenoid but doesnt
even try to fire now.
Any help ?

|Sounds as if you've lost power from the battery to the ignition switch. To test, do this: disconnect the wire from the small stud on the solenoid and connect it to battery + power, then, while someone holds the key in the "start" position, jump from battery + power to the small stud on the solenoid. What you will be doing is back-feeding the power to the ign. switch which will feed it to the ignition. Your vehicle should have an electric fuel pump, depending on engine size, the pump will be activated by the computer for two seconds on turning key to "run", or current will be supplied to it when you have 4 lbs of oil pressure.If all goes well, the engine will run as long as the key is in the start position. Do your gauges work when key is "on"?|
