|My furnace has been working sporadically for the last year. The furnace fan would cycle on with the t-stat, but the burner would try and ignite and fail once or twice before finally lighting. The next time it would do the same, sometimes it would light off with no issues. |
Now there is no indication that the igniter is trying to light, I have checked out the sail switch, it has continuity when switch is activated, limit switch is ok. I smelled gas before when it would fail to light, now that it doesn't appear to be getting an ignition signal, there is no smell of gas. is it the board, how to confirm that? I don't want to get into part swapping.

|There is a repair manual available on the net.|
What it won't tell you: The sail switch is a touchy piece of poop that will test good but not trigger.
The fan motor can sound fine but run so slow as to not trigger the sail switch.
The Combustion wheel (Fan for the burner side) can loose fins and cause intermittent lighting and a sail switch that wont trigger.
The hard lighting could be the burner is rotten and has a hole in it or the igniter is not sparking to the correct spot. These are the most common issue for a hard start!
Finally the "BOARD": Any RV dealer or parts store can bench test this, if they won't do it for free go to a store that wants your business.
