|Bus won't turnover||Gary Boley||12-16-02|
I've got an MCI-8 w/a DD 871. Starting batteries are up and everything else gets power. It's always started right up before. It acts like a relay or something is keeping it from making contact with starter.Hitting starter button does nothing. Are there any solenoids or contacts that need to be reset. Aiso I think emergency shut off might have been moved, does anything need to be reset because of that. I do appreciate all help on this problem. I'm puzzled. Thankyou very much, Gary

You have to make sure you touch the big post on the right of the starter selenoid and the small post right below it to engage the starter.
If you cross the large posts on the left and the right, all the bendix will do is spin.

There are many things to consider. First there is a neutral safety switch. Then there is either a starter relay or a series paralell switch. On the starter there is a solenoid that could give you a problem. This solenoid gets it's power from the starter button and it's ground from the brushes. So if the brushes are worn, sometimes they won't give the solenoid a good enough ground to engage. First thing to check is the relay wire on the starter with a test light. Have somebody push the starter button while another person checks for power to the terminal. Just be careful as anytime the button is pushed the engine could start. Move the shift lever back and forth to neutral to see if it starts. There usually is a second set of starting controls back in the engine compartment. Try them. As far as the emergency stop, if it is connected, it must be reset on the engine. there is a lever on top of the blower that has to be moved to the lock position of the lock cam. Most of these have been disconnected or eliminated so don't be surprised if you find that.

Same problem on a 68 silver eagle w/ dd87v1. It seems the button is not working but even when we try the old screwdriver to the starter trick it doest seem to engage the bindex, starter motor just spins. Any suggestions?
