|Replace a Reese Revolution 10K Pin Box with TrailAir 21K||Matt Smith||5-25-17|
|I have a 2016 Rockwood 8244WS fifth wheel that has a Reese Revolution 10K pin box, VHD-10K22SW. I don't need the sidewinder feature, and I have removed the wedge, and installed the 2 lockout bolts.|
I would like to replace the Reese Revolution with a Trail Air LC158778, rated at 21K. This pin box measures 12 inches wide. The problem is the width of the trailer frame (LCI 3073621) only accepts 10.5 inch wide pin boxes. I contacted Lippert, and they told me only the Reese Revolutions will work with this frame.
Is it possible to have a machine shop build an adapter plate to install with the Trail Air pin box? Matt

|Building an adapter set up should be easy for any welder or semi competent machinist, tech or handy guy. The trailer frame is basic steel that can be welded by any competent welder with out fear of weakening the frame|
1st You do not need a 21k pinbox, there are other choices. the 18 k version springs to mind.
2nd you do not need or probably want a Trail Air this large for the weight of your unit, and they leak down and they need to be re-set every time you change the water level in the fresh water tank and and.
3rd And of course I like the Anderson Ultimate Connection 2 as it gets 90 % of the benefit of the air ride and fits any truck trailer combo. Benefits include no clunk, bang, very little trailer shaking truck effect and so on.
