Another Stupid Question for Joe JR 12-8-02
I have ordered the DD 6V92 service manual and the DDEC II guide. Don't have them yet. (Expensive!) What is the normal idle speed of the above engine.
Mine seems to idle a little fast. Would NJT pull the engines to replace just the lower bearing shells? My engine is painted a really peculiar purple color and it was painted good all over. Had to be out of the frame. Does that indicate a better rebuild? It's very oil tight. My trans is white?? Without any purple on it. I have been told the purple engines were rebuilt in 99 and 2002. (This is optimistic rationalization!) Any ideas an that?
Thanks again, JR

Your idle speed should be 575 rpm. The painted engines and transmissions are overhauls. The colors reflect on the rebuilder. Most of the engines that were just repaired like lower bearings were not painted. The fact that yours has a painted engine and trans may indicate more miles than what is shown on the odometer. What they did was to replace the speedometer at overhaul with a 0 mile one. This is a very common practice.
