Hydro Flame furnace problem Brad 3-24-17
I have an older Hydro Flame 8526-11 furnace. Every thing seems to work fine, except when it tries to loght, it fires for a second or two, then shuts off. Is this due to a bad thermocouple?. I have the burner unit out. The igniter and thermocouple are one unit. Is there a test for the thermocouple? Spec on resistance that I can test with a meter. Thanks

Hi Brad, a few things can cause your problem. Low LP pressure, you need a low pressure gage or manometer to check this, usually best to have an RV tech do it. Bug nests blocking the exhaust or in the burner chamber or blower, or combustion fan area. The electrode porcelain is cracked. The gap between the ground and spark electrode tips is 1/8 inch, adjust carefully so you don't crack the porcelain. Clean the plug surface on the circuit board and blow out any lint in the plug and make sure all spade connections are clean and tight. A rusted through burner chamber will cause this also. If this is the case quit using the furnace as carbon monoxide poisoning will occur and considering it's age, replace the furnace. I realize you can't use the furnace now, but had to throw that in for safety reasons. Before you invest in any parts, have the circuit board tested at an RV repair shop. Good luck
