I need information on how to adjust the compass. I changed cars but lost the installation paper. I can't find the company where it was made. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Frank

For Warren, My wife complains about not knowing which direction we are going.
I found the Zemco DE700 in a thrift store. The lighter plug is missing, but I can fix that. Can you e-mail me the instructions. What holds the little black box in position? Only the little bracket for the main unit was with it.

I can't help you on the adjustment - sorry.
If my memory is correct, Zemco was bought out by Cal Custom sometime back. You might try to locate them for an instruction sheet if they're still in business.

Setting the compass is simple if you can locate a "compass rose." Well, if you are near a serious weather station or a airport you may find just that. It may take a few tries, but if you want it set correctly you first set the north south, then set the east west. Then go back over the north south again, and finally check the east west setting again. And if you aren't confused enough by now, as you travel you must compensate for magnetic variation as opposed to true north.

I have instruction sheets for both the DE700 and DE710. email me. When you set the compass, be sure your car is well away from anything metal (building, wiring of any kind including underground power wires, light pole, etc.) I found mine pretty sensitive. Remember this is aircraft technology and planes have lots of space around them. I figured true north from my plat map and set the car in my driveway properly. You can get more sophisticated about it, but it works.
Just for the record, Zemco was in a hostile takeover by Lite-On Electronics (Taiwan I believe). They still manufacture for OEM worldwide, but dropped the aftermarket for all but security. I used to rep for Zemco and have some units and parts left over from a mail order operation I was doing for them.

Thanks Joe, I needed some confidence in what to do. I did know that you cut the error in half each time. Do NS 1st, EW then NS again. Frank
