Rear Axle Leak - MCI Bus MC8 Terrass604 10-17-02
I just picked up a 1975 MC8 coach and there is oil coming out of the center of one of the rear wheels (driving wheels). The Hub mounted odometer is attached to it. How hard is it to remove the flange and replace the gasket or seal? Do you have to jack it up to take the weight off?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it coming from the axle flange? Or from one of the axle studs?

You will need to remove the wheels and brakes on both sides.

It is coming out of the flange (I guess that is the axle end ?). The hub odometer is bolted to the same flange.

It probably is just an axle gasket or the Silicone (RTV) has failed. We use high temp RTV on a clean dry surface instead of a gasket. There may or may not be wedges on the axle studs. this could be a little tricky if there are wedges. "Bring out that big sledge hammer."
