Freeze plug leaking Dylan 9-9-02
On my 1965 ford fairlane 500(v8 289) the freeze plug leaking. the mechanic says the whole tranny needs to be pulled so they can get to this plug. Is there an easier way?

Not if it is on the rear of the engine.....

If the plug is visible and you have 2" or more of clearance in front of it, then it can be replaced without pulling the tranny. The replacement is a unit made by Dorman and is called Quick-seal Expansion Plug. They are slipped into the hole and then tightened with a box or open-end wrench which expands them. They should be available at FLAPS,(Friendly Local Automotive Parts Store). The hardest part of the job is getting the old plug out. I'll testify as to how good these are as we used a good many in our construction trucks and never had one fail. They are made in sizes from 1 1/4" to 2 1/4" by 1/8" increments.
Re: Quick-Seal Expansion Plug Evan 6-30-05
I'm trying to locate two 1.25" quick-seal expansion plugs to complete my motor rebuild, but I am having a difficult time finding a FLAPS that not only has them in stock, but can also order them. I tried surfing Dorman's website but found that you're not able to order online. In calling R&B Inc, the company that deals with Dorman Products, they said I couldn't place an order with them because they only sell to distributors. Would you be able to provide me with any information/phone numbers that would allow me to order these plugs?
