Spring loaded lift system for popup camper Ed 1-6-16
We were given a 1975 Skamper popup. It has outside arms that lift to raise the roof. However, the roof is so heavy and the arms are stiff from sitting outside for 20+ years, that it won't really open up. We can only lift it a foot or so high and it is too heavy to hold open. We think the outside arms are suppose to be spring loaded, but we do not see springs. Any thoughts? Should we replace the arms? If we do purchase them, will the roof lift easier? Thank you!

If I remember correctly (This was old when I started) it should be a crank lift system.

A crank handle hidden in an exterior compartment and a small hole or shaft to put it on in a compartment.

I haven't found one of those. The arms are exterior and there isn't a crank. It is just arms that spring up. It looks just like the one seen in the picture at this website.
