Atwood hydro flame 8500-IV RV Heater, Sooting and smoking out exhaust and also causeing CO2 to blow out the heater vents, can anyone help? Please! MPaxton 12-31-15
I have a 2002 Weekend Warrior 5th wheel trailer and the Atwood 8500-IV is blowing out black smoke from the heater exhaust like an old diesel and the exhaust is also coming out of my vents inside the trailer. Does anyone know what causes this and what needs to be done to fix the problem? I've tried all the trouble shooting tips I could find but none has helped yet. If anyone has found out what causes this please, please let me know. I'm freezing!
Thanks
Mike

Hi MP, The most common causes are, low LP pressure (lazy flame), Low voltage or a faulty motor not producing the correct speed hence poor combustion, a blockage/nest in the heat chamber or burner, less likely but possible, bad gaskets, the combustion fan wheel is on backwards or loose. You're best to have a tech check it out. Stop using it until fixed! Good luck Happy New Year!

I have this same furnace and the same problem. I took out the burner and it looked good and I blew out the intake and found a lot of black carbon.I also blew out the exhaust as well. I put this all back togeather and is seams like the black soot became worse. there is 13V at the board the only thing iI did not check was gas pressure but hot water heater works fine?
