Distributor in back = 318 or 360
Distributor in front of engine = Big Block 383 or 413 or 400 or 440

Engine size really isn't going matter for MPG

Class "C" units tend to get 8 to 14 depending on how they are driven.

The real diference in engines is how fast they will go. A 318 will probably go 75 mph max and cruise at about 55 a 440 will go 85 max and cruise at 70 if you ask it to ( 6 mpg ).

Use a high Zink oil for old engines.
