Pgrading a diesel motor Bill 8-16-02
Are there any adverse problems with upgrading a 275Hp motor to a 300 (or more)Hp? What are the costs of doing this?
Thanks for the help, Bill

Are you talikng of recalibrating a Cat diesel engine? If so it is probably possible and it will not harm your engine. The transmission will have to be checked to see if it can withstand the increased power. Cost depends on the age of your motorhome and how much time remaining on the warranty. Minimum is about $100 and it can cost up to $850 to go up to 325hp. Hope that answers your questions. If not give me more info on your engine.

I upgraded my CAT diesel from 275hp to 300 hp. Cost was $100. All they have to do is hook it up to the computer and "tell" it to upgrade to 300hp. No new parts/chips are involved.

I would like to know how much effect this has on the fuel mileage, going from a 275hp to say a 330hp? Also can this be done on a Cummuns and a Cat at approx. the same price? What is the average fuel mileage on these engines.I have always pulled a 5th wheel, would like to convert to a class A diesel motor home. Thank you.
