Service on 5k Onan Genset Gary 8-6-02
Have a 1997 Fleetwood Bounder 34V and need to service the Onan Generator. Is there anyway to work on it without dropping it to the ground? I cannot see how to even remove the outer metal shields to get access to the unit. Thanks

You should be able to change the oil and tune it right where it is. What else do you want to do?

I am wanting to have access to the fuel filter and air filter plus plugs and do oil change. The oil change should be no problem but it appears that I neeed to remove the covers for the rest.

You shouldn't have to remove anything to do what you want. I'm not giong to say it's easy, but it can be done.

Gary,

I have a '96 Bounder and have little difficulty in removing common maintenance items such as plugs, filters, etc. The inside plug is tight, but doable. If you need to do anything else, such as replacing a starter, you HAVE to drop the genset. I can give instructions on how, since I just did it.
