Re: magnetek 6300 series power converter by Sam Watson
Post New Message Do this, get yourself a 12 volt test light at FLAPS, (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store), turn off everything in the rig, disconnect the ground cable on the house battery, connect the test light between the disconnected ground cable and the ground (-) post on the battery. If there is a unknown draw, the light will come on. If it does, start pulling the fuses in the 12 volt side of your converter, do it one at a time, checking the light each time you remove and leave out a fuse. This will isolate the problem to a specific circuit. Are you sure your converter not charging your battery? The charge section only puts out 3 or so amps, and since it's only 1/2 AC wave rectified, it is really only making 1/2 of what it says on the rating information on the converter's door. The only sure way to know is with an ammeter, or by inferrence, a volt meter. In addition to my Super-Duper, multi-meter with all the bells and whistles, I purchased online from Camping World, a neat little DC volt meter that just plugs into the "power center", what we used to call a cigarette lighter socket. Matched against the Super-Duper, it's very accurate. Their part # for it is G19983, and I see they've got it on sale for a buck off at $12.97 + S&h.
