I have a very intermittent problem with my MDL 8531 III where I find the blower motor running and the air is cold, so I assume the burner did not light. This has happened 4 times in 2 months. Do thermostats wear out? The times I have found it in this state, I ran the thermostat temp control back and forth (min to max to min to max) and it has lit.
The Tstat controls the AC, the AC fan speed, and the furnace. What should I check or do to fix this? Since messing with the Tstat seems to have fixed it temporarily every time so far, that is the direction I am leaning but I thought I would get a second opinion before throwing parts at the problem.

I have an Atwood 8531 D series. My wiring diagram on my furnace does not match any I've found on line. It does not have a ground but all of the replacement ones I've received have a ground. any ideas?

T-Stat not the problem.
Change the High Limit switch unless the fan motor is noisy.
The Limit switch shuts off the LPG but the T-Stat keeps the fan running because the trailer is not warm yet.
The other causes could be a failing fan motor or bad circuit board, But the High Limit is most Likely by a factor of 4 to one.

Can I replace a 8531 III atwood furnace with a 8531 IV atwood furnace?

Hi Sid, Yes it should be a remove and replace procedure. Good luck
