Dometic Fridge Model RM2652 Jim 10-13-13
I have a question regarding my Gas Fridge. I have a problem with the gas electronic ignition. When I first turn the unit on I hear the gas valve open but it doesn’t sound like the sparker is working, so I was thinking is was bad. Anyway if I light the gas portion manually with a lighter it will light right up and everything works fine, I used it last week for 5 days and it would turn itself on and off without issue. I could hear the valve open and the gas ignite instantly. Now that it has been off for a few days I tried it and the same thing happens, it won’t work. So I turned the electric on and after about 15 minutes switched it to gas and it lights right up. It’s almost like something needs to be warmed up before it will work.

I have the manual and also a troubleshooting guide but nothing really references my issue I’m having. I’m thinking about replacing the electronic controller but I want to see if you had any ideas first. Please let me know what you think. I have good gas pressure and all voltages are normal. I also tried to lighting sand the ignition rod to make sure there was good contact.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Re: Dometic Fridge Model RM2652 BUBBA THE BUS TECH 10-15-13
It sounds like a dirty chimney.

You need to clean the burner area and chimney in a proceedure we call a blow job (What Can I say, We are Techs)

Take a compressed air line and blow up the chimney above the burner, wait untill all the crud has settled down and blow out the burrner area.

80% Positive result.

From there we look at igntor gap, and have the board bench tested.

Good Luck

I had nearly the identical problem with a Norcold refrigerator and fought with an intermittent lp lighting problem for 5 years. It acted the same and did not want to light on lp, but if you ran it on electric for a short while, it would then light up on lp. Turns out it was a bad ignitor board that was intermittent. I replaced it with a new board made by Dinosaur Electronics and it lights on lp EVERY time since then. I wish I had done that 5 years ago. If you blow the chimney clean and it still does the same thing I would try that. Dinosaur makes the parts for your Dometic also. They make an excellent replacement part, with an excellent warranty and are made in the U.S.A.!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your feed back. The first thing I did was clean the chimney, it's seems to be the number one problem with gas fridges. I also moved sanded the ignitor rod lightly and moved it closer to the gas valve, it looked to be a was a way. When you guys talk about the ignitor board are you refering to the sparker box or one of the circuit boards in general. I was planning to replace the sparker box, new are only like $30. I just thought it seemed to be odd that it would work once the unit warmed up. Thanks for all of your time and information. Jim

I also thought it was odd that mine did that. So odd in fact that I fought with it 5 years before finally replacing the igniter board, which is a circuit board that causes the electrode (sparker) to work properly. I would look at the Dinosaur product as their quality is known to be better than factory replacements, and the warranty is also usually considerably better. From their website go to "Replacements for Dometic" and then on that page there is a link to a replacement reference chart. It looks like they most likely make a replacement for your unit. Good Luck!

I looked at the manual and it looks like the part number for the board is 3850712013. I'll look at replacing it, thanks again and let me know if you have any more information. Jim

Here is the link to the page with the Dinosaur Electronics Dometic cross reference chart:

And "no I don't have any type of affiliation to their company. I just believe they manufacture a great product.
