American CS6000 converter noise Joanne 5-5-13
I have an American Power Converter model CS6000. When I am plugged in with nothing running, the unit makes a crackling noise. As soon as I turn on any electric, it stops. All my lights, appliances etc work fine. My battery is hooked up correctly. Any ideas what is causing this to happen? I am afraid of any damage/fire.

There are several things it could be, none of them good.

I spoke to a couple of our techs, they have no recolection of a common problem like that on this make converter.

What it boils down to is a bad conection or a failed electronic component on the control board.

Either way it needs repair before it becomes dangerous.
