1994 Fleetwood Running Very Rough Angie 4-3-13
Our 1994 Fleetwood idles fine but when you put it in gear in backfires and sputters and can barely drive it up to maybe 20 mph. We have put new gas and Heat in it. Mechanic changed the fuel filter which he said was full of water. It then ran fine. He even got it to run at 65 mph. Then later went to go put new premium gas in it and it went back to sputtering and running terrible. What else should we check.

Sounds like you have a contaminated fuel tank.

If its metal its likely the inside is rusty at that age.

Change the fuel filter again if it fixes it by 1/2 dozen and get good at changing them.

Or have the fuel tank dropped out and ether repaired or replaced. There are coating materials for tanks like this

Good Luck

Thanks! Well, my husband told me it is a 1993 not a 1994. oops! He agrees with the idea of having the tank dropped and was glad to see that is what you thought too.

We did have a diagnostic check done and it said to replace the coolant temperature sensor and we did that which did help but still not right.
Also checked the fuel filter again and found water in it again.

Plan for tomorrow is to try to empty the tank and put new fuel in and see if that will help. Hoping we don't have to replace it but we will see.

Thanks again for the info!
