Hydro Flame Furnace- Pilot will not light Rusty 5-24-10
I have a hydro flame 8525-111 furnace. the pilot would not light. I purchased a new Dinosaur circuit board thinking that was the problem... still does not work. The green light on the board is lit. I just checked the voltage at the red wire (valve) coming out of the board while the furnace is running and I have nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Rusty, I'd suspect a sail or limit switch problem. Check for power at the white wire on the board plug with the fan running. Is the fan running at proper speed (low voltage/slow motor) to trip the sail switch? Check continuity and for lint/dirt on the sail switch. Make sure all spade and board plug connections are clean and tight. Good luck

Thanks for the quick response. I am getting 11v at the white wire. I put the old circuit board back in and am getting intermittent variable voltage at the red wire (valve) coming off of the board 5-7v... it kinda comes and goes a few times and then nothing. I am not getting anything at the red wire with the new board in. I can't seem to find the sail switch. It appears that I may have to tear some stuff apart to get to it. A few observations.... some of the wiring under the trailer that comes out of the battery looks pretty corroded at some of the connections... could it be a low voltage issue? The fan seems to be running strong. Also, according to the directions that came with my new aftermarket circuit board, when the green led is lit it indicates that the limit switch and sail switch are ok..... and it is lit when the furnace is turned on. Will attempt to find the sail switch tomorrow afternoon... any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Rusty, The sail switch is under the square black plastic cover on the front, left side (4 screws). The limit switch is behind the blower fan and harder to access. It's possible to get a bad board, not the norm, but happens. If you can, take both boards to an RV shop and have them tested. It's easy to say when you have a tester available to you, but it's usually the first thing I test because knowing if it's good or bad sure saves time and hassle troublshooting good parts. I find most often the board is the culprit, but of course not always. Bad grounding/dirty connections are also pretty critical when working with 12V. Good luck

Thanks for the info Keith. I found the sail switch and it is clean and is working... I did not try to get to the limit switch, but did check continuity at the 2 wires coming out of the switch and checked good. So, it looks like I'll take both circuit boards to the RV shop for testing tomorrow. If they test good (I hope they don't) then it looks like I'll start chasing down bad connections. Thanks again for your help.
