My genset won't start. First off, it has sat idle for several years. I tried with fresh fuel but no go. If I squirt a little fuel directly into the carb throat (where the air intake is) it will fire and try to start.
I'm thinking I need to remove and clean the carb but open to all suggestions. TIA.
Take the carb off and thoroughly clean it with carb cleaner and install a new carb rebuild kit. Also new plugs and points would be money well spent. If you are somewhat mechanical you should be able to rebuild the carb yourself. I would bet if you do these it probably will fire right up.
I can't imagine there is more than one or maybe two carbs that were used on that unit, depending whether it is gas or lp. I assume it is gas. My suggestion would be to take all of the numbers off the genset you can find (model, spec # etc) and then go to the following website.

They most likely will have the parts you need, but you probably will have to call them as I do not see that model listed on their website. If you do not have one I would also suggest talking to them about a service manual for your unit. They probably have one, and it will be money well spent. Let me know how it turns out for you.
Thanks again Lee. I have bookmarked that site. I started yesterday to remove the carburetor. Really tough to get at the nuts. My unit doesn't slide out and it weighs over 320 lbs. Any tips on how to make it easier?
I have no good suggestions. I had the same exact problem. You just have to find a box end wrench that will fit on the nut and be very patient. You will only be able to turn the nut a very short distance, before having to re-position the wrench again. The good thing is you don't have to turn it very far before it is loose enough to finish getting off by hand. You will also face the same problem when tightening that nut up again.
